Ultrasonic additive manufacturing of nanocrystalline laminated composites

چکیده
Abstract Ultrasonic additive manufacturing has been used to fabricate laminated composites of commercially pure aluminum and a nanocrystalline nickel–cobalt (nc-NiCo) alloy. The nc-NiCo alloy would not weld itself but readily welded aluminum. Thus, by alternating between foils Al, we achieved multi-material laminates with strong interlayer bonding. Electron microscopy showed that the nanoscale grain structure was preserved during deposition nc-NiCo/Al interface decorated comminuted surface oxides as well Al–Ni–Co intermetallics. These findings are considered in light process models junction growth, interdiffusion, which together reveal how different pressure- temperature dependences these phenomena give rise range processing conditions maximize bonding while minimizing coarsening intermetallic formation. This analysis quantitatively demonstrates using soft, low melting point material decouples growth at from nc-NiCo, expanding optimal conditions. Graphical abstract

New-emerging approach for fabrication of near net shape aluminum matrix composites/nanocomposites: Ultrasonic additive manufacturing
Recently, high-performance lightweight materials with outstanding mechanical properties have opened up their way to some sophisticated industrial applications. As one of these systems, aluminum matrix composites/nanocomposites (AMCs) offer an outstanding combination of relative density, hardness, wear resistance, and mechanical strength. Until now, several additive manufacturing methods have be...
متن کاملBolted Joints in Laminated Composites
Expressions were presented which can be used to estimate the strengths of continuous fiber reinforced composite laminates containing pin-loaded holes. The expressions apply to laminates containing either a single pin loaded hole, a single row of pin loaded holes, or two parallel rows of pin loaded holes.
متن کاملHierarchical optimization of laminated fiber reinforced composites
1. Abstract The aim of this work is to perform hierarchical optimization [1] in laminated composite structures, considering simultaneously macroscopic and microscopic levels in the design of the structure and its material. In the macroscopic level, the optimization algorithm cares with orientations and fiber volume fractions of unidirectionally reinforced composite material layers. In the micro...
متن کاملMode I Failure of Laminated Polymeric Composites
A mechanical model for the prediction of mode I delamination failure of a laminated double cantilever beam (DCB) type specimen is presented. The volume of material ahead of the crack tip that experiences high stresses due to the presence of the crack tip was replaced by a nonlinear elastic spring foundation. The volume undergoing global deformation due to the external loading was replaced by a ...
